[Plugin] Second Homepage (page of Posts)? (6 posts)

Something I've been needing for years: a second (or more) "Posts" page.

It would be EXTREMELY helpful if I could create additional home pages, preferably with their own RSS threads.

For example: My homepage is dedicated to politics. I'd like to start a second page dedicated to other issues like the Environment or the Economy, where people can comment on each post, just like they do on the home page.

Right now, all you can do it create a new page that is basically a single post that grows longer & longer & longer (ad infinitum). Not helpful.

I don't want to mix unrelated content on the same homepage. Anyone know of a plug-in like this?

Try using posts and setting categories. then easch section gets it's own dedicated listing just like you describe.

Thanks Rich, but unless I'm missing something, that's not quite it. I already use "categories" so people can find/read messages on a specific topic.

The problem with "Categories" is that, when you click on the Category name from the homepage, it simply produces a list of links that take you to each individual post (unlike the homepage, which shows multiple posts).

Unless there is a way to show the entire posts in full with comment links below them, linking to Categories... while close... won't do.

    Thx though.

That's a theme/template issue. You need to edit your theme's category template file so that it use the_content() and comments_popup_link().

Ah, you just created work for me. :)

Okay, I'll go through my theme and see if I can't alter the way it displays posts within a category.

Any idea if there's a way to give users an option between the old format and the new? I still like the idea of people being able to see a list of summaries of posts in a specific category.

Also, would modifying the way the category template displays posts affect Search Results (where Summaries are preferred)?

No specific solution other than, if you wanted to be able to toggle the content display, you;d need to start looking at jQuery.

It shouldn't do. I can't recall the exact template heirarchy for searches but I think that WP would default to archive.php and then index.php if there wasn't a search.php template file in the theme.
