Searching Multiple Categories

    My website is http://www.tidesandtrails.com

    I am currently building it, but key to it’s idea is that the user can search via multiple categories

    For example, if they traveling to the NT and are looking for good campsites they can swim at, they might pick:
    “Northern Territory”
    “Campsites”
    “Swimming”

    Then all the posts that match those things will come up.

    This could either be a widget on the sidebar, or a separate page, I just want it to work.

    I have googled and googled and have come up empty, most things that come up on this forum are 4 years old, I try to follow them but hey don’t want.

    I would have thought this was a standard request?

    Also note I am very new to wordpress.

    most things that come up on this forum are 4 years old

    Please review how to use Google and a date filter…It’s rather easy, but using Google is supported @google (not here)

    So thanks for that, I have no searched the first 3 pages of results.

    It seems there aren’t any plug ins that would do this simple task, unless I want to spend a lot of money. They are designed for commercial sites.

    I had a shot at copy and pasting codes into the functions (previous threads) and I managed to wipe my whole site, I had to delete the theme manually haha.

    If anyone knows of a cheap plugin that would allow searching of multiple categories, that would be appreciated. Otherwise I will need to redo the categories on my webite 🙁

    Searching is a database query with parameters already built into core. If you need to perform code work and are not confident in your abilities, WordPress suggests you hire an expert.

    Well I spent a few hours trying to code like that site… I got very close too!

    Long story short yahoo delivered me a result google didn’t

    Seems to work okay except with parent categories, which isn’t a big deal

    Thanks a lot for you help

    I will probably try and do it myself at my leisure, at least now I can launch the site i.e. tell friends and family about it 🙂
