 * My previous experience with html allowed deep and specific search and replace
   for the entire website.
 * WordPress does not even have search and replace for single pages or posts.
 * I have tried 3 different plugins to add this capability; however, they all are
   implemented in esoteric and obscure ways that do not provide search and replace
   for editing or updating pages.
 * How about adding a simple find feature to the tool bar? I am talking about find
   and replace that every word-processor has that every text editor has that every
   html editor has.
 * I was shocked when I converted to WordPress not to find this or simple scrolling.
 * Thanks for considering adding this basic function.

 * > WordPress does not even have search and replace for single pages or posts.
 * That’s a feature that belongs in plugin territory.

 * If all users had that capability built into WordPress… the support would be _horrific_.
   😉
 * Each plugin does work though I personally prefer wp-cli.
 * [http://wp-cli.org/commands/search-replace/](http://wp-cli.org/commands/search-replace/)
 * But as I’ve said, it’s not something that should be built in. It’s too dangerous
   and WordPress strives to work for the majority of users.

 * What’s simple scrolling?

 * 1) I disagree. The search and replace I am talking about is for posts and pages.

   2) Perhaps full search and replace that went into plugins would be dangerous
   and ill advised. 3) And no, none of the plugins work for when you are composing
   as they would work when you are using a word-processor or primitive text editor.
   4) Simple scrolling is available in any word-processor or text editor. Try it
   with your mouse and see.

 * We’ll disagree about items 1-3. Building in an easy way for users to damage their
   site really isn’t something that will be included outside of a plugin.
 * Item 4: Scrolling works on my post editor using the mouse wheel, arrow keys,
   page up/page down.
 * **Edit:** Oh. You mean in the post/page editor _only_. Gotcha. Usually users
   mean search and replace in their own installation globally. That part is dangerous
   but within the editor, of course it’s not.
 * You still won’t like the answer. It’s in a plugin, specifically this one.
 * [https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/)
 * It enables TinyMCE options and one of those is CTRL-F or Edit -> Find and Replace.

 * 1) You should fear any text controls too if you fear find and replace being added
   to a text editor.
    2) As I said before, adding find and replace for the entire
   database is a different issue and plugins might be the best option for that.
   3) There are no find and replace options now that can be added to the text controls
   area of the text editor so that you can work as sanely and simply in the text
   editor as you can in any other text editor in the world. 4) Remain fearful. You
   are good at it.

 * _*Reads. Seriously? OK then.*_

 * Why, thank you! It’s rare to come across someone who appreciates the value of
   being fearful! I’m fearful just typing this reply, but I am good at it.
 * I do appreciate the positive spin you put on your posts in these forums. With
   comments like that, I am certain _you_ will go _far_ in these volunteer driven
   support forums.
 * With such a guiding light as yours, I have little doubt that the core WordPress
   developers will fall over themselves and take your suggestion seriously.
 * _*Finishes coffee and becomes serious*_
 * If you’ve got an honest contribution to make, perhaps you’d like create a trac
   ticket? You see, while this is a feedback sub-forum, the actual place to make
   core WordPress suggestions is via Trac.
 * [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/)
 * If you give that a read, you’ll see that you can create a ticket. That is the
   best way to get your “observation” to the core WordPress developers.
 * Mind you, not all tickets get accepted or even evaluated. But that is a good
   place to start and your contribution will have a greater chance of being read.
 * I don’t doubt that the “search and replace” in the post/page editor is a good
   idea. It _is_ a good idea and a trac ticket may help advance that.

 * Search and replace would be really great, and I do see that you have a TinyMCE
   plugin option. However, I don’t use TinyMCE (aka the rich text editor). I do
   everything in markdown/html/tags, and find the rich text editor causes many problems.
   I disable it (which is an option on all user accounts) for all editors.
 * What I would really like is a search/replace in the non-tinyMCE editor. Is this
   possible or even desirable for others?
