Support » Plugins » Search pages plugins not working

  • I’ve just been upgrading a couple of WordPress installations that I manage to 2.0.9 — my current hosting accounts don’t support MySQL 4 which is why I can’t upgrade to 2.1.x — and I’ve noticed that I can’t get any of the WordPress 2.0.x Search Pages plugins to work.

    I’ve tried:

    * search_pages.php (randomfrequency.net)
    * search_everything.php (dancameron.org)
    * sem-search-reloaded (semiologic.com)

    and none of them are working in my installations of 2.0.9. I even tried them all in clean, new local installations of WordPress using XAMPP, but I couldn’t get them to work there either.

    My favourite is search_pages.php cos it’s so small and simple.

    So I installed a whole bunch of WordPress installations on my local test machine and discovered that it DOES work with WordPress 2.0.1, 2.0.4 and 2.0.5 but DOES NOT work with anything beyond that, including 2.0.6 RC1.

    So it would appear that the search code was changed within WordPress between versions 2.0.5 and 2.0.6. Any idea on what I’d need to fix within the plugin to get the search_pages.php plugin working again for WordPress 2.0.9?

    Thanks.

  • Not sure about your problem, but on 2 of my sites running 2.0.9 the search everything plugin is working great.

    edit – did you configure the options with the Search Everything plugin?

    Aha! I’ve now got the Search Everything plugin working, thanks.

    I found that I had to configure the options twice — the first time I clicked “Save” I got the confirmation that it had saved the options, but all the options disappeared … very weird!

    So I set the options again, saved and this time it remembered them.

    All is well, thanks again.

    I wanted to let you know that we faced the same problem with Search Pages and we decided to look into it. We have been able to modify the plugin to make it work with all versions of WordPress.

    Our new Search Pages 2.0 plugin is available for download from our InternetOfficer.com web site (just released). It is based on the popular Search Pages 0.1 by David B. Nagle.

    Your comments are welcome.

    I was also experiencing problems with the Search Pages plugin in 2.1.x – so I went and downloaded Dan Cameron’s Search Everything plugin and that works (though you need to save the options in the Admin > Options > Search Everything screen twice.)

    You can find it here.
