  • Hi @tommangatt,

I checked the site and found it’s displaying following JavaScript error message in browser console on clicking search magnifying icon.

Uncaught TypeError: Object #<Object> has no method 'on'

Have you made any changes in theme?

If yes please revert it and check whether it’s working or not.

You can also download and use the fresh version of theme from the following link

    Twenty Fourteen

    Best Regards,

    Thanks WPMU DEV.

Did not make any change other than adding a header image. However, as you suggested, I replaced it with a new download. Still, search does not work.
    Any idea?

    Hi @tommangatt,

The above JavaScript error message is still displayed in the browser console which should not be displayed.

You can also check the JavaScript console for errors. In Chrome go to “View -> Developer -> Javascript Console” and in Firefox you can go to “Tools -> Web Developer -> Console”

I think the JavaScript error message is causing the search field at the top right corner not to work.

This may be due to any plugin conflict.

Could you please replicate the WordPress setup on another test site and check whether it’s working or not?

If it’s also not working there then try deactivating all other plugins by following the instructions provided in the flowchart on the below page to check is there any plugin which conflicting with the theme.

    Kind Regards,

You’re right WPMU DEV. The plugin ‘comments-likes’ was the issue. I like this plugin. How can I fix it? Any idea?

Thanks a lot for the help.

The problem with that plugin is two folds

    1) It hasn’t been updated since 2010 – seems to have been abandoned.

    2) The plugin loads an old version of jquery – this is always going to be problematic.

If you want to have a go at resolving the issue then start with commenting out line 77 of comments-likes.php to remove the jquery. Then test to see if the likes still works.

    Hi @tommangatt,

    Thank you for your reply.

You are using the comments likes plugin which is out dated and it’s support is also stopped so instead of making changes in it, i recommend you to use other plugin like following to achieve the same result.

Thanks Zulfikar Nore and WPMU DEV.

You are most welcome, if I can be of any further assistance please don’t hesitate to ask 🙂
