• Hi. In vBulletin, you can search all the template files of all of your themes for any string in one click.

Isn’t there a way to search at least all active theme files for a string in WP?

I wish to modify something in my theme, but I have to either manually search every single file by opening it in the editor and using the Ctrl F of the browser, or downloading the files and searching them in batch on my desktop….

  • Nope, not in WP. I’ve always had to use TextPad to search through all of a theme’s files on my local PC if I was looking for a certain string.

Just as a note of caution (and you may already know this), you shouldn’t modify a theme’s files directly (unless it’s your own custom theme), but instead, you should be making changes through a child theme.

Yes CrouchingBruin, I am changing a custom theme… thank you for your feedback. I wish someone would pick the idea and do a plugin for this.

I believe it is a simple plugin to create, and I ‘d be happy to co-finance it. Anyone?
