Search functions(s)

HI again!

Okay so I have two questions/issues but they have to do with the search function of the database.

1) In the search template this line is there as a form of “error checking or validation”

<p class=”value_error”><?php _e(‘Please type in something to search for.’, ‘participants-database’) ?></p>

but unfortunately is is not “functioning” if I have a blank form it is allowing an all results function instead. any suggestions?

2) is there anyway or has anyone had the results of the search come back with just a yes/ no answer? Like “the id you presented is in our database” kind of thing?

I pretty good with writing PHP its the shortcodes that I am still learning.. Thank you so much for any and all help!
