Is it possible yet to search SKU’s for variable products?

If this is not available, I have to use another plugin, based on my company’s to-do list.

Ok, I’m working on it. I have an idea how to implement it, but I would like to also see your proposals.

When you type SKUs for variable in the search form, what should you see as a results? The parent product name with selected attributes in brackets, or list all attributes below product name?

Hi, So typically without making it very complicated, just the product must show. for example, if Apple Pie is the product and has sku’s Apple1, Cheese1, Jelly1 then when you search for Cheese1, Apple Pie must show.

The search would search for the product sku and display main product.

You can go further and display all related sku’s to the main product like Apple1 and Jelly1. but, Cheese1 will show first on the list.

Also, when you type the SKU in the search box and hit enter, the main product page will open up just like its happening currently with Single Products.

I was just looking for a way to get this to work – I would be fantastic if you could add this feature as we have had customers think that a product has been discontinued when they search by SKU and nothing is returned.

Ideally, if they search by a SKU and it matches a variation, they would be taken to the product page with the option already selected (so the correct images is showing).

Many thanks for a great plugin!

    Best wishes,

    Hi everyone,

Are there any updates on this or an ETA on when we can expect to see support for variable products?

That’s a pretty big factor these days. Most products are variable and if the search doesn’t pull up variations & unique SKUs, then it’s a pretty big problem for most stores.

This feature will be added in May 2019 (maybe faster) for the free plugin version, and at the beginning of the 2019 together with the first release of the Pro version.

Why do you have to wait longer for add this feature to the free version? In the free version I use native WP search engine (MySQL). After my test with variations sku, the search speed dramatically slowed down. I need time to find efficient method.

In the Pro version I use efficient search engine based on inverted index and bm25 ranking algorithm. I tested WooCommerce site with 20 000 products and the live search takes an average of 120ms. Adding support for variation SKUs was trivially simple.

I wish you all the best and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch.

For optimization and business reasons this feature is only available in the Pro plugin version.
