• Hi,

I am going to update and extend the website of my daughter’s kindergarten (and start from scratch concerning my knowledge about WordPress).
Right now WordPress is only used for public information.

Under a subdomains we have a password protected image gallery, which doesn’t really fit our needs.

Beside having a nice gallery overview and picture viewer, ideally every registered user (all parents of the kindergarten) should be able to edit albums and images in a collaborative effort, as the images are mostly just uploaded in bulk, and need to be sorted by quality (delete) or rotated or so.

I am now looking for a WordPress gallery plugin, allowing ideally for the following features (more or less a subset of OS X iPhoto or facebook photo albums):
    – access/rights management for viewing the gallery section/page
    – editing rights for registered/known users (not just admin!!!) including the following features
    – easy picture upload (tool)
    – automatic separation by event/date into albums on upload
    – basic image editing features: rotate, crop, delete/hide, add/edit title
    – basic album editing features: add/edit title, manual image re-sort
    – like (an image)
    – comment (on an image or album)
    – tagging
    – album slideshow: fullscreen/lightbox with keyboard control (next, previous, close/return)
    – smart folder/album: my liked images (as flagged images in iPhoto)
    – download single images
    – download selected images
    – download all images of an album

I was looking for several times for a suitable gallery (wordpress plugin or ‘standalone’), but wasn’t able to find one.
The goal is to host the pictures on our ISP’s server and own our data, but we might need to consider using a cloud service. Or switch to a different CMS?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Kai

  • I’m not sure if there is a WordPress plugin that will allow all of these features you are asking for.

You should definitely look in to Next Gen Gallery (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com) as it is one of the more versatile WordPress image plugins.

If that doesn’t work, you may need to go with a cloud service.
