Support » Plugin: Code Snippets » “Screen Options” Not Working

    Good Day!

    Love your plugin. It has “saved our day!”

    One little thing … the Screen Options for your plugin is not working. Click here.

    For example, we’re trying to add the column “ID” and increase the number of Snippets per page from 20 to 25 but, when we save our new settings, nothing happens. It doesn’t save them.

    Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thank you!

    @bungeshea (developer),

    Would it be possible for you to look at this? Thoughts?

    Noticed you’ve answered many other topics published after this one.

    Thank you!

    My apologies! I’m taking a look at this – hopefully it should be fixed in the next release.

    Hey, any updates on this? We can really use your help.

    Hi @jetxpert,

    My apologies for not revisiting this earlier.

    Unfortunately, I’m still not able to reproduce this. On all of my test sites, I’m able to adjust the number of snippets per page, or check/uncheck the columns, and clicking apply causes the changes to take effect across page loads.

    Hi @bungeshea,

    Thanks for the update. For some odd reason, we’re now able to increase our number of snippets per page with no issue.

    However, when we try to add the ID column to our snippets table, we cannot save the setting.

    Before Clicking “Apply” —-> http://prntscr.com/vty49l
    After Clicking “Apply” —-> http://prntscr.com/vty5m2

    Potential Root Cause: It’s possible that the issue is related to the maximum allowable array size for each field (i.e., Name, ID, Description, Tags, Modified, Priority). If the table’s maximum size is exceeded (prior to adding the ID column) due to long snippet names and descriptions, it’s possible that the ID column doesn’t “fit” so it’s rejected when we click “Apply.” Does this make sense? (we haven’t tested this condition). Yes, we do have long “Names” and “Descriptions” for our snippets.

    Also, there’s something funny about your changelog.

    Your plugin description says Revision 2.14.0 was a day ago (i.e., November 30, 2020), but in your plugin changelog, the date for Revision 2.14.0 says “26 JAN 2020”.

    You may want to look into this and fix it. Confusing.

    Thank you!

    Thanks for the update @jetxpert.

    It sounds like you think the problem might be down to a lack of visual table space? i.e. there isn’t enough room for all of the columns to display on your screen? Are you able to test what happens if you uncheck all columns except for ID (and perhaps name) and see if that saves correctly?

    There’s no issue with the changelog, though I understand it looks a little confusing. 26 Jan is when v2.14.0 was released for download – it’s the most recent plugin release. The ‘Last updated’ text on the WP.org plugin page refers to the last time that I changed anything about the plugin, including the text on the WordPress.org plugin page. In this case, the most recent update was marking it as tested with WordPress 5.6.

    Hi @bungeshea,

    Performed a simple test. We confirmed that “Screen Options” selected cannot be saved.

    Desired Settings (ID only, before clicking “Apply”): http://prntscr.com/vtyk1d
    Actual Display (Settings not saved, after clicking “Apply”): http://prntscr.com/vtyldt

    So, our theory about “field size limitation” can be thrown out the window 🙂 The issue lies with the plugin’s Screen Options section.

    By the way, above test was performed with Chrome (Incognito Mode) and cache cleared (local and global) to confirm issue.

    Concerning the “Last Updated” topic, you may want to update the changelog to reflect what you stated above. Not sure what you did complies with WP standards, but could be wrong. Haven’t seen what you did why any other plugins. Very confusing. 🙂

    Cheers!

    I’ll do some more testing to see if I can reproduce the problem as you describe. I have a feeling that this is related to something that I have actually fixed in an upcoming version, but I’d like to be sure.

    The dates in the changelog are really just there to keep track of when versions are released. I imagine that most plugins don’t include them at all. Sometimes I’ll release a new version when testing whether the plugin works on a new WordPress release, but often it works without any updates required so I just update the text. I can definitely see how it’s confusing, but I’m not sure if updating the date in the changelog would make it less so (people might think that this was a new v2.14.0 even though it hasn’t changed.

    @bungeshea,

    Happy New Year!

    (1) Can you provide a status on this (i.e., Screen Options issue)?

    (2) Concerning your changelog comment above, I’d like to recommend updating the main WP plugin dashboard at the same time you issue a plugin update (together with its corresponding changelog) to eliminate any confusion. In any case, just a recommendation.

    Thank you!

    Hi @jetxpert, apologies for the lack of updates. I may have worked out a solution to this, though it’s difficult to be 100% certain without having the affected people like yourself test it out. Regardless, the fix will be included in the next release, which will be coming out shortly.
