 * The “Screen Options” drop down menu does not seem to be working. It will check
   the box but the screen does not reflect the change and upon refreshing it reverts
   back to before the box was checked. It as if the “Screen Options” is not actually
   communicating with the server or database. This is happening in more than one
   of my WordPress installs and I am not sure the next steps in trying to fix it.
 * First it was happening on a site I’m developing for my friend’s dad. It wasn’t
   being so much of an issue until I couldn’t get the “Custom Fields” to show up
   on the pages, which is necessary for one of the plugins I’m using.
 * Someone at work suggested checking the original theme I used vs the altered one.
   I decided to do this on a dev site. After I upgraded the dev site the same issue
   started happening there too. I’m wondering if this is some glitch that happened
   when upgrading to the newest version of WordPress. I do not remember the previous
   version I was on before the upgrade.
 * Here is what I have attempted so far:
    - I re-downloaded the 3.1 upgrade automatically through WordPress’s uploader.
    - I have downloaded a fresh wordpress install and overwrote all of the files
      other than my “wp-content” folder and config file manually through FTP.
    - I disabled the current theme and tried a variety of other themes, including
      the Twenty-Ten preinstalled WordPress theme.
    - I made sure everything on my sites was up to date, including all themes and
      plugins.
 * Both of these sites are living on the same server. Here is my server information
   if it helps:
    Operating System Linux CentOS Apache: 2.2.17 CentOS: . cPanel:
   11.28.87 Curl: 7.12.1 MySQL 5.1.52 phpMyAdmin 3.3.9.2 Python: 2.4.3 Perl: 5.8.8
   PHP: 5.2.4 ionCube Loader: 3.3.20 Zend Optimizer: 3.3.9 Ruby: 1.8.7 Rails: 2.3.5
   OpenSSL: 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5

 * I am also having another issue, I’m not sure if it is connected to the problem
   I listed above or not.
 * On the Dashboard I cannot reorder the widgets. The 4-way-arrow shows up (I don’t
   know the technical name for it) but I can not actually click and drag anything.
   This is happening on both sites.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a **fresh** download
   of WordPress.
 * – increasing the memory available to PHP:

 * Thanks! It was a plugin that was causing the issues. Apparently Social Discussions
   broke after the last WordPress update.

 * I was having this issue too.
    My menu was also not dragging and dropping. I turns
   out it was a javascript conflict. That is why a plugin conflict could have occurred.
   I had to add additional code to a function in my functions.php file as per this
