Support » Networking WordPress » Scope of Custom Post Types

  • I can’t find any documentation on controlling the scope of a Custom Post Type in a multisite install.

I have a plugin that creates a Custom Post Type.

When Network Activated, I want the CPT to be universal to all subsites, but I can’t find any info on how to do this.

Thanks for any help in direction that anyone can provide.

That would either have to be done via that plugin, OR you could manually write the CPT code and install it as a functional plugin in the mu-plugins folder.

My apologies, I am writing the plugin.

And I have not been able to find out, when registering my new CPT, how to make it accessible to other sites on the network. Or is that automatic?

Thanks @patrick, but that doesn’t really tell my about the scope of a CPT.

Also, when you Network Activate a plugin, does that make it work like “MU Plugins” in that the activation code does not run?

I guess I’ll just have to start experimenting.

If you make the code for your CPT an ‘MU Plugin’ then it will be available for all sites on the network, no activations needed (or possible). Think of them like editing your functions.php, only you can make them for the whole network.
