Ooh, sorry, I take my previous answer back. If “Backup Now” works, then your scheduler is fine.

That’s a new one, and I can’t think how it could happen. Do you get the “Settings Saved” message? Are you on a stand-alone site, or multisite?

yes i get the settings saved message.
it is a stand alone site.

i meanwhile found out that it seems to work with scheduling “daily” backups – at least it confirms the scheduled time, i will have to see whether it will do anything.

but it does not work with any of the other options (4 hours, weekly … )

    Hi,

The probable cause is that you have another plugin which calls WP’s scheduler incorrectly. UpdraftPlus adds new scheduling options (such as 4 hours) to the WordPress scheduler. Most likely you have another plugin which does also, but does so wrongly, by at the same time removing those that other plugins (in this case UpdraftPlus) have added. Remove or deactivate all other plugins, then try again, then (if that works) selectively re-activate to find the culprit.

The reason why “daily” still works is because that one is built in to WordPress, not something added/amended by plugins.

okay – so what updraft up to know does & does not:
    – the manual backup worked and it was also uploaded to dropbox
    – the “daily” scheduled backup worked but was not uploaded to dropbox.
    – a second try with the manual backup again worked but also was not uploaded to dropbox – last entry in the log file always says “dropbox access gained”
    – furthermore, although i configured updraft to keep 1 update it did not delete the older updates from the “updraft” folder on my webserver.
    – after deleting the older updates from the webserver folder manually they still appear in the list on the plugin’s page to restore from
    – at the top of the plugin’s page where the scheduled times are listed it always says that no backup was finished successfully.

    – after finding and deactivating the conflicting other plugin, scheduling now works with all options but still does not delete old backups nor upload backups to dropbox

    – enabling the debug mode makes wordpress give this feedback: “Strict Standards: Only variables should be passed by reference in /homepages/2/d50914773/htdocs/sandbox-rmf/wpsb/wp-includes/pomo/mo.php on line 210” and due to this error message the scheduling options dropdown for files can’t be opened

    Hi siiiilke,

    – the “daily” scheduled backup worked but was not uploaded to dropbox.
    – a second try with the manual backup again worked but also was not uploaded to dropbox – last entry in the log file always says “dropbox access gained”

Please post the full log file, as requested in the FAQs and forum instructions.

    – furthermore, although i configured updraft to keep 1 update it did not delete the older updates from the “updraft” folder on my webserver.

That happens/is expected for incomplete backups. Since they’ve not yet been successfully despatched to Dropbox, they’re not yet ripe for local deletion.

    – after deleting the older updates from the webserver folder manually they still appear in the list on the plugin’s page to restore from

Press the “rescan folder” link in the “Restore” section. That’s what that link is for.

    – at the top of the plugin’s page where the scheduled times are listed it always says that no backup was finished successfully.

That information is likely correct. You should consult the log files to see what has been unsuccessful.
