    Hi XXH,

Does the website receive frequent visitors? The backup will start and run as people visit the site and it will perform a little bit each visit.

If the site is able to “see” itself, as soon as the backup starts it will “visit” itself over and over until the backup completes, so doesn’t require any hits except the one that starts the backup. If the site can’t “see” itself you can get this kind of problem if nobody visits the site after the backup starts.

Try scheduling a backup for in say, 10 minutes time. Then keep clicking in the admin page until the backup starts, and see if it runs through as you browse. If it does run through as you browse admin page then you know the issue is that the website cannot see itself.

Technical wise, we mean if your website is “www.example.com” and WordPress tries to open “www.example.com”, it loads your website. On some badly configured servers they cannot see themselves and when they try to load “www.example.com” or whatever their URL is, they either cannot connect or get a different website. Only the host can fix this.

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

    It does get regular traffic.
The thing is it doesnt fail all the time, maybe 80%. So i guess my site can “see” itselt.
And when it does, those two lines events are all i get.
The job just stucks, will not reset the next day, i will have to start a manual backup to overwrite it.

    Thanks

    Hi XXH,

I’ll get a diagnostics version created that you can run. It’ll make a log file and hopefully tell us where the problem lies.

    Hi XXH,

You can download a version 2.2.16 trace version here:
    https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/wponlinebackup-472-tracing.zip

You’ll need to uninstall the plugin you have installed (you’ll lose your settings so remember to write down any encryption keys!) Then you’ll need to upload this tracing one and activate it.

Once you’ve set it up again, try running some backups and reproduce your issue. A trace.log file will appear in your FTP folders at /wp-content/plugins/wponlinebackup-472-tracing/trace.log. Please download this file, compress it (Windows, right-click Send To -> Compressed ZIP File, Mac, right-click Compress), then email it to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk and put a link to this topic in the email message too so we know who sent it.

After we receive it we can work out what is causing your problems and see if we need to make some adjustments to our plugin or if there are some configuration adjustments we can make such as memory usage.

    Regards,

    Jason
