    Hi

I have looked at just about every posting I can find in relation to this topic and tried every solution out there to no avail. Scheduling a backup or pressing Backup Now does nothing other than to tell me I have a backup “scheduled”.

The site is self hosted on IIS (windows 8.1 Pro box). We are using WordPress to document the birth and growing up of our Son so he can look back in years to come. WordPress and everything else runs okay and I can schedule a post.

I have added define(‘ALTERNATE_WP_CRON’, true); to wp-config.php – nothing. I have made registry changes to Windows 8.1 to allow loop backs – nothing. No other plug ins installed other than Updraft Plus.

Strangely though, fully restarting the host box initiates the last requested backup? If I try to back up again, nothing?

Very frustrating as I installed Updraft Plus as a trial with the intention to upgrade and pay for more “add ons”. Which I still intend to do, but I need to be confident it will work.

    Help and advise please?

    Hi Andrew,

If no backup starts, then your WordPress scheduler is non-functional. This will be affecting other scheduled tasks in your WP install – the UD backups will just be the most visible.

After 650,00 downloads, nobody’s yet come across a case of a broken WP scheduler that wasn’t covered by this document: http://updraftplus.com/faqs/my-scheduled-backups-and-pressing-backup-now-does-nothing-however-pressing-debug-backup-does-produce-a-backup/

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi David

You have now! I tried everything in the link you mentioned before using this forum. Nothing works and YES I can use other scheduled tasks, its just updraftplus that has the issue.

A further note, when I installed the plugin (directly from) WordPress.org it crashed IIS and displayed WordPress without parsing PHP. I had to restart IIS. I will remove updraft and install again (rebooting in between) to see if this fixes things.

If not, then sadly I will look elsewhere or just get to grips with mysql and backup the database with a script.

Strange that you utilise the Scheduler anyway, seems logical to use a scheduler to “schedule” a backup, but not to Backup NOW!

    Thanks anyway.

    Hi Andrew,

If other scheduled tasks run, but not UD, then it sounds probably that the UD task does get run, but that something causes it to crash quickly. Are there any log files in wp-content/updraft ? Is it possible that that directory is not writeable?

Strange that you utilise the Scheduler anyway, seems logical to use a scheduler to “schedule” a backup, but not to Backup NOW!

Using the scheduler allows a backup to run “in the background”, and not be tied to any particular page loading. I believe all backup plugins do this (I don’t think there’s another way – if you tie it to page loading, then it’ll stop running due to various timeouts connected with page loads).
