Installed but I don’t want to start using it until I understand it better.
For discussion, we’ll call my sites, Main, sub1, sub2 etc.
I already have and use User Role Editor plugin and Join My Multisite. What I’m wanting is this.

Main site = the gathering area/social site. I have a membership plugin with lots of social features.

Sub1 = sales, the sales site where people sign up for paid subscriptions(sites) and/or buy things from a store. The membership plugin handles the subscriptions and I’ll be using woocommerce for a store.

    Sub2, sub3, sub4 = the member’s sites.

I want everyone to be authors on the main site, everyone to be subscribers on the sales site and everyone to be admin on their own site but be able to join other member’s sites using Join My Site manual shortcode/widget. That way each subsite admin can allow joins if they want.

What I don’t want is for everyone to automatically have some kind of role on every new site. Some sub admins may not want anyone but themselves to be able to log in.

In the future, I may want to make another “community” subsite where everyone has a certain role, all the same role. This is where I THINK your plugin would be useful. Is that correct?

    Thanks

so sorry I’m not getting any emails or notifications from WordPress on the support here so just stumbled across this!

It sounds quite complicated in your architecture as a whole.

The best way to trial it is to create a new site and enable the plugin there pointing back to a different site and see the capabilities get added in.

If you are considering it for an existing (production!?) site then absolutely don’t point to a reference until you understand that it will replace the sites roles with the reference site’s roles that you are pointing and all users will get their roles/capabilities defined by ‘Join My Multisite’/’User-Upgrade-Capability’. So again its a good idea to test it on a test site.

Once you have understood you something like me and have the plugin activated network wide and only config a reference site if you want to use it to extend a certain site from a reference sites user base.

to you final question In the future, I may want to make another "community" subsite where everyone has a certain role, all the same role. This is where I THINK your plugin would be useful. Is that correct?

that sounds like what ‘Join My Multisite’ does on its own..?

Anyway sorry for the delay ..The only reason I’ve just spotted it is since I been making a few additions of roles>role mapping (not just capability>capability to the plugin and may release it in the future.
