scared to death to update to 2.1.4

After reading all the horror stories about problems people have had after updating to WC 2.0 and up to 2.1.4 and not seeing any replies from support to help them. I am scared to death to update. I did update to 2.1.2 before I even read that I am supposed to try all update in testing environment (I did not). The only problem I had after that update was my Product Categories widget went missing and I just had to drag it back to my sidebar.
I am running WP 3.8.1 and all my plug-ins are up to date. Just use Authorize.net, Contact Form 7, Wordfence and WP SEO. I do have full backup of site, databases, and full cpanel that I create from my bluehost cpanel and it is saved on my computer, but would not even know how to restore if something happened. I am using a child theme of Mystile that he named mystile1.
My question is how long before I am forced to update to 2.1.4? I am going out of town tomorrow and will not have time to do a test environment to test my site with the WC 2.1.4 update. Don’t even know how to do that either. Will WC at some point force and manually install the update and/or when will things stop working if I don’t update? I will be gone for 2 weeks and don’t want to find out that the update was forced and things are not working on my site. Thank you.
