Saving a 2nd product Attribute overwrites the 1st product Attribute

Hi,

I can create a product attribute called “PrimeCare” and use it for variations.

However, if I create a new product attribute called “PrimeCare+”, after I save this second attribute, both attributes are called “PrimeCare+” – the first attribiute was renamed from “PrimeCare” to “PrimeCare+”.

The behavior you’re encountering is actually expected due to how slugs and URLs work in WordPress. Certain special characters, like the plus sign (+), aren’t supported in slugs, so WordPress automatically removes or alters them. For example, both “PrimeCare” and “PrimeCare+” will end up with the same slug, “primecare”, causing conflicts. This is why you’re seeing the title change — WordPress treats them as the same item.

To avoid this, it’s best to stick with letters and avoid special characters in slugs. Instead of “PrimeCare+”, you might consider alternatives like “PrimeCare Plus”, “PrimeCare Pro”, or even “PrimeCare B”. These not only work more reliably in WordPress but also improve SEO and readability.

Hi Zubair,

The product is called Balance 30 Pro, and has variations called BPL-031-LTEA-P-T, with a description of the variation in column 2.

Is it possible to create a WC product with the first column as variations and the 2nd column as variation detail?

I understand you’re working with a product like Balance 30 Pro and you’d like to use the codes in the first column (like BPL-031-LTEA-P-T) as variation identifiers, with the second column providing the variation details. That setup is definitely achievable in WooCommerce, and I’ll walk you through how to do it.

You can create a variable product for “Balance 30 Pro” and use a custom product attribute (for example, “Model Code”) where each variation has a unique value like BPL-031-LTEA-P-T. Then, for each variation, you can enter the description from your second column in the variation description field, which appears when you expand each variation in the product editor.

Here’s how to do it:
1. Edit the product and set the Product data dropdown to Variable product
2. Under Attributes, add a custom attribute called “Model Code” or any other word
3. Add all the codes from your first column as separate values (separated by vertical bars like |) and make sure to check “Used for variations”
4. Under the Variations tab, click “Create variations from all attributes”
5. Then, for each variation, add the description in the Description field and optionally update the SKU to match the code as well
