Save Your Money…Avoid QSM at all costs
-
I told support, specifically Pankaj Giri (who has been patronizing and taken days between responses) that I’d post a review and they didn’t seem to care so here we are, I genuinely want to warn others to avoid QSM at all costs.
I signed up to QSM last year after exchanging some emails with support and being assured that QSM was perfect for what I wanted to do (make some practice exams for my website). I paid for a yearly subscription and after playing around with the plugin I found that you are only given VERY basic features, which are trash and you get upsold on everything. If you want to have any sort of functionality be prepared to pay a fortune or be willing to accept the garbage “free” features (even though you still pay).
The whole plugin is buggy and not very nice to work with, it doesn’t integrate very well with Elementor or other WordPress plugins and the general feel is very cheap, even though it costs a lot of money. It’s trash and I made a mistake buying it, especially paying for a year at once so I got rid of it after about a month. I ended up using ClaudeCode for my project which was easier, faster and cheaper than fiddling around with a clunky and expensive service.
If that was all there was to it I wouldn’t bother leaving a negative review, this happens and usually I just take the L and move on. However a few weeks ago I was quite surprised when I got charged $250 for another year, without warning or reminder email. For most services you’ll be reminded when you’re about to be charged but not QSM, they just smack you with a yearly fee without warning. Bad luck to you if you haven’t remembered your exact date of renewal.
I immediately reached out to explain that I had zero intention of using QSM ever again and the entire thing had been an error but they were patronising, condescending and insistant that they had sent me a reminder email. I asked for proof of this and didn’t get a response for about 5 days. They finally got back to me with an attached pdf showing a generic template of what they MIGHT have sent had they sent it (they hadn’t). They simply refused to give me my money back despite lying and telling me that they had sent an email which they hadn’t.
Either way, I have reported the transaction to my bank and lodged a complaint with my local consumer affairs beaurau. I thought my poor experience would be just confined to poor UX and expensive upsells but I wasn’t expecting them to also try and run away with my money. Anyway, my goal is to warn others, so this is what I’m doing. Stay away from these thieves.
Tl:dr
-Bad, expensive service. If you’re considering using them AT LEAST shop around or TRY and use something like Codex or Claude Code to get what you want done. Most of these LLMs are around $20 a month and can build everything QSM does without locking you behind a paywall. They’re cheaper and more flexible and are definitely worth at least a one month trial before comitting to using a garbage plugin like QSM. Try a few prompts and see how you go.
If you DO decide to subscribe, carve down your subscription date onto a graphite tablet and keep it somewhere secure because they won’t warn you when they’re going to bill you and their customer service are a nightmare to deal with and genuinely don’t care about you unless you are buying something from them.
*EDIT*
Turns out that it IS in fact possible to process a refund and since posting this review, QSM have refunded my money and are begging me to take down this review. I am refusing to do this for two reasons.
- For two full weeks (and taking 2-3 days between each response) they assured me that they were forbidden from giving refunds, that it was not possible, that THEY WISH THEY COULD but unfortunately it simply could not be done. I warned them that I would post a review and warn others online and they did not care then, so they don’t get to change their minds now. $250 is not a lot of money for them, but for me and my family this period caused a lot of undue stress behind the scenes.
- Removing my review would be a disservice to my fellow consumers out there, many of whom are like me and are not rich, do not run large websites and are just trying to make a little bit of extra money online while balancing a regular full-time job and family obligations. Lots of companies out there have inflated positive reviews for this reason, they incestivise nice things to be said and pressure you to remove negative reviews, which I will not do. Avoid QSM at all costs fellow webmasters, be safe out there.
Peace
