same web and mysql server, error on installing

i’ve created a packae, had the problem downloading the installer.php file, but grabbed it and the zip via ftp.

had a look at installer.php and compared it to old ones from previous packages: it does have the info and it does not look mangled.

ftp-up installer and zip in the same webspace, but in another subdirectory. accessed installer.php with the browser and filled in all mysql details: basically it’s the very same mysql server, same user, same password, only a different database (the ISP offers 5 databases, suffixed _1 to _5, with the same login details).

the process cannot start, as i have this error:

Host: Fail
Database: Fail
Version: This Server: [no connection] — Package Server: [5.0.92]

so original and clone are on the same webspace, they refer to the same mysql server, but one runs ok and the other does not connect…
any idea what may be wrong? i know the best way is contacting ISP support and get them to solve the issue, but i thought of asking just in case someone recognises it and has a solution at hand…
