Same theme, different widgets on wordpress.com and localhost

  • Started out using wordpress.com to develop several blogs and then installed wordpress on my own system to continue development and experiment with various themes.

Used the Twenty Ten theme on wordpress.com because it has over 40 widgets – quite a few would satisfy the requirements for the web sites. I exported a Twenty Ten web site/blog on wordpress.com and then imported the xml file on the wordpress installation on my system (localhost). Then I installed the Twenty Ten theme on the localhost, only to find around 20 widgets.

My intention was to develop sites on my localhost and then export them on self-hosted servers.

Why doesn’t the localhost version of Twenty Ten have the same widgets as the Twenty Ten version on wordpress.com?

themes rarely have their own widgets –

widgets are part of the general installation, and because WordPress.com does not allow plugins, it is equipped with more widgets than WordPress.org where you can use plugins to get individual widgets.

    alchymyth,

So you’re saying I have to go into the WP.org Plugin directory and search for the widgets/functionality that I used for the Twenty Ten theme on WP.com and download the appropriate items, right?

    Thanks for your response.
