• Can anyone with experience in and offer advice on the easiest way to set up SMTP mail sending across a Multisite network with domain mapping?

I would love some feedback, especially if people are using the same SMTP mail sending settings across their network AND are using domain mapping.

I had hoped that I could use Mailgun to send mails from all network sites or simple contact forms and WordPress notifications.

But Mailgun say best practise would be to set up each site individually since the domain mapping on the sites means that the email domain would not be the same as the domain of the site the mail was sent from. If I understood correctly.

I have found instances of people saying they use the same SMTP settings across their network, but perhaps they are not using domain mapping.

Hence my question, can anyone with experience in and offer advice on the easiest way to set up SMTP mail sending across a Multisite network with domain mapping?

    Many thanks!

  • Mostly the SMTP settings are network wide and not affected by the domain mapping as domain mapping is controlled by WordPress itself where SMTP is a product of the server level system.

There’s some interaction but not much.

The best advice is to try it and see. Your host and maybe Stack Exchange would be the better sources to approach if you do have questions or troubles.

Thanks for responding – the thing about trying it and seeing is that it could work for some time before issues occurred – that’s why I was hoping people with experience could chime in.

It works currently, but I think the fear is that if the mail is seen to be originating from a webpage on http://www.clientdomain1.com and the SMTP mail sending is from mainnetworkdomain.com it might raise flags.

But I’m not as well versed in the ins and outs of mail sending and spam flagging as I would like so am hoping someone who has a good bit of experience with multisite and mail sending can offer some advice.

Ps host isn’t offering much help, Mailgun have been some help but they are quite technical in their responses and also I was wondering if others had different working solutions. I guess I could try Stack Exchange so thanks for that tip.
