# Safe to update??

 * I am helping my sister with her site, and noticed that her version of WordPress
   is 3.2.1. I would like to update it to the current version (3.5.1.). Is it 100%
   safe to update it?
 * I know that when editing themes, it’s important to set up child themes in order
   to have safe upgrades to WordPress, but I do not know what her web developer (
   volunteer) did to create her site and if then, there is any danger to the current
   state of the site if and when we upgrade WP.

 * Any insight or assistance is greatly appreciated.
 * Ex: should I back up the site offline before upgrading, and then how do I go 
   about restoring this if need be?

 * No matter what the upgrade is you should **always** backup before you do any 
   backups or major changes. So yes in this case you should definately back up the
   files and the database.
 * If anything does go wrong, you can delete all of the sites files on the server
   and re-upload them to the same place form your backup, then drop all of the database
   tables and import your database SQL file.
