Support » Plugin: iThemes Security (formerly Better WP Security) » Safe to Delete? (itsec_distributed_storage)

  • The plugin table “itsec_distributed_storage” appears to be increasing in size quite rapidly. If we delete the table’s contents, will:

    (1) The plugin cease to function?
    (2) The table contents regenerate themselves?

  • According to the 7.0.0 release changelog:

Enhancement: Introduce Distributed Storage framework for reducing the amount of data stored in the WordPress options table. This should improve performance for large sites using File Change.

So it’s probably safe to say that the itsec_distributed_storage table exists for proper functioning of the File Change Detection (FCD) module.
So deleting the content of this table will probably only affect the FCD module.

I don’t expect it to break the plugin.

Though you might get unexpected results on the next file change scan.
You may need to reset other related (WP Cron) data as well. The FCD module is pretty complex and extends into WP Cron. At least make sure there is not currently a FCD scan runnning when clearing the table.

Definately recommended to do some testing first.

Oh and remember, to prevent any confusion, I’m not iThemes 😉
