• I was looking to use Sabre to stop spambot registrations. I installed the latest version and activated it. Went to admin section and then clicked on the Approved registrations tap to manually approve existing users. As soon as I do this the logon page appears and it will not allow me to login. As the site administrator i find this strange and returned back to the plugin page by clicking the back button on my browser. I clicked deactivate Sabre and again the login page appeared but this time it accepted my username and password. I have left the plugin deactivated.

Please advise how I can active without it loosing my admin account details, I don’t want to get logged out of my site.

  • Sabre don’t check the users who have the right to manage other users, like admin for instance. Thus, I don’t understand why you experienced this strange behaviour.

Here are some questions that can help:
    – Are you using WordPress in mono or multisite mode ?
    – What are the versions of WordPress and Sabre used ?
    – Have you installed other plugins dealing with user profiles or security in some aspects ?
    – Can you give the list of the plugins installed ?
    – Did you try to deactivate all plugins but Sabre and check if the problem is still present ?

WordPress used is v 3.0.4 in mono mode.

    Sabre version is v 1.1.2
No other security plugin other than Akismet.

    Active Plugins:
    Akismet
    Countdown Timer
    Duplicate Post
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Mingle Forum
    NextGEN Gallery
    WordPress Database Backup
    WordPress Hit Counter
    WP-Forecast
    WP-Polls
    WP-Table Reloaded

I am using a theme called Avisio.

I have not yet deactivated all other plugins prior to activating Sabre.

    Regards
    Andrew

I don’t see any potentially conflicting plugins in your list but I will check more carefully.
I tested again but was not able to reproduce this behaviour.

Let me know the result after you try to deactive all plugins and run Sabre.

    Best regards

After further investigation, there’s a good chance for Mingle Forum and Sabre to be conflicting.
Just try Sabre without Mingle Forum and see what’s happening.

OK I will try that when I get home. If it works with Mingle Forum deactivated should I then activate Mingle Forum with Sabre still active or would you recommend deactivating Sabre prior to reactivating Mingle Forum?

    Thanks

I deactivated Mingle Forum and then activated Sabre. Went to the Sabre went to admin section and then clicked on the Approved Registrations tab. Again as soon as I did this the logon page appears and I enter my user name and password but it will not allow me to login.

By using the browser back button I get back to the admin panel click plugins and again the logon page appears but this time on entering my user name and password I get to the plugin admin page and can deactivate Sabre.

To be honest, I have no idea about the reason why Sabre reacts like that when you try to register manually your existing users.
Normally, Sabre should send you back to the same Approved Registration tab with a message showing the number of user registered versus the total number of declared users. Something like :

    4/5 WordPress users successfully registered

Do you have something like that before being redirected to the login screen?

Did you try to deactivate all your plugins and not only Mingle Forum ?

    Best regards
