• Hi forum,
i am starting to bang my head out, because after upgrading WP (to latest version 4), the S2Member plugin is driving me mad.
It keeps logging me (admin) out every 2sec. Before upgrading WP it was working like a charm.
Despite, I didn’t Add or Remove any plugins or changed other settings I still tried disabling all plugins to rule out conflicts. Nothing!
I also tried to re-install WP4, in case something went wrong during installation.
    Nothing!
Every time I try to write a page, add a post, or just checking things, i get asked for Username and Password every 2sec.
    Very frustrating!
Then, I tried to log in with my colleague/friend’s details and everything was normal.
    So, can anyone, PLEASE, help?
p.s.: could my membership have expired and need to reset the days for my relative Administration Level? if so, how do i do it when I can’t even stay on the same setting page for 10sec?

  • If your account had expired, it would just be sending you to whatever page you set up to send you to when a user doesn’t have the correct credentials. Was this a login page? If it’s the session expired, lightbox pop up, this is not the case.

Have you tried just using your colleague’s admin login and creating yourself a new account or seeing in the user are what the problem is?

    Hi jaspud,
    thank you for your input.
Unfortunately, my colleague/friend’s login has restricted use; I was the only ‘admin’.
In the meantime, I ahve also tried trying to open my admin page on different computers and different browser. Nothing!
I tried to deactivate the S2Member plugin and then reactivate it; Nothing!
The problem has to be some bug/conflict with the new WP4.
Is there any chances I can go back to the previous WP versions (can’t remember if it was WP3.9)?

I very much doubt that it is a bug or conflict with WP 4.0. If that were true, this forum (and wordpress.org generally) would be littered with users reporting a similar problem.

It might, however, be that the update to WP 4.0 caused a latent problem to manifest itself. So, once you get back in, you should start by testing for a conflict with another plugin (or even just a buggy plugin: updating to WP 4.0 caused a plugin I have been using for a while to behave very strangely, and it turns out that it has always had this problem, but it never showed before).

What you need to do is use phpMyAdmin to get into your site’s database and reset your account to administrator. You can Google for how to do that, or read this.

    Hi KTS915,
and thank you for your advice.
I have managed to add another user with ‘admin’ roles, however it still logs me out every time I change page, or even on the same page every 10secs or so.
I also noticed that for those few secs that I manage to stay connected, the S2Member setting page is blank (I can’t actually see what could be wrong there)
    Any other ideas?

    By the way,
for those few secs that I manage to stay on, it seems that my account is set to Administrator.

It seems that S2Member does not like the Administrator anymore.
I tried creating various users with different roles, i.e. Level 1/2/3, Author, Subscriber, etc.. they all stay logged in as long as they want but with limited capabilities though.
As soon as I create a new Admin, or assign ‘admin’ roles to any existing users S2Member goes back to logging them out.
The only thing I haven’t tried yet is deleting the plugin completely and re-install it, but I’m afraid I will lose all the settings and have to start again! (or not?)
    Very frustrating! 🙁

If you have set Deletion Safeguards to yes (which is also the default setting), you won’t lose anything by deleting the plugin and reinstalling.

    HI KTS915,
i’m still trying to solve this without deleting the plugin, and I noticed something that was peculiar.
    Under,

    WP–>Users–>s2Member Configuration & Profile Fields–>Registration IP

my three colleagues, who all have the same privilege restrictions, have assigned the same IP address, the ‘admin’ user has a different address and a ‘newuser’ that I managed to create has another different one.
I thought of changing the ‘admin’ Registration IP to the same of the ‘newuser’. Now, when I connect using the ‘newuser’ login everything works as it should (it doesn’t disconnect me at all); however, as soon as I connect using the ‘admin’ login everything goes wrong (it keeps kicking me out of my own login).
How important is the Registration IP? And, how should it be?
    Regards

It sounds like either you have Unique IP Access Restrictions enabled (in Restriction Options). I would strongly recommend turning that off. It really doesn’t do anything useful.

    HI KTS915,

Could you please, help me finding such setting? I already struggle to stay on a page longer than 10secs, and I don’t seem to have luck finding this setting.
    Regards,

    I’d suggest trying this:

    1. Use your FTP client to download the s2member folder to your desktop as a backup.

    2. Again using FTP, delete the s2member folder from your server.

    3. Login to your site. If s2member was causing the problem, this should be possible now.

    4. Create a new user as admin for you to use. Test it works by logging out and back in!

    5. Use FTP to upload your s2Member folder back to your site.

    6. Activate s2Member, and go to s2member -> Restriction Options -> Unique IP Access Restrictions. Turn them off, and save.

    7. Now try logging out and back in. Both your admin accounts should now work.
