    Hi all

I am rather new to this wordpress thingy.
I got someone currently using wordpress developing a webpages for me.
I was told that after it has completed, it will export 1 single file for them to place on my web server.

My current webserver is a window base, I do not have a C panel.
    My question is,
    a. Can I run wordpress app in my window server.
    b. deposit this file into the “default” webpage directory and have it working ?

    Greatly appreciate your advice

    Peter

    a. Yes you can. WordPress does run on Windows. Basically as long as your have MySQL or MariaDB running with PHP you’ll be able to run WordPress.

    b. If they are only going to give you one file, then it’s either a WordPress XML export file, or a ZIP file with all of the sites files in it.

If it’s the ZIP file, you can un-zip it, change the database connection settings in the wp-config.php file and run the site.

If it’s a WordPress XML export file, you’ll need to import that into a new blank WordPress installation. That will copy the settings and content, but you will need to ask about themes and plugins that have been used.

    Hi all

    IF
If they are only going to give you one file, then it’s either a WordPress XML export file, or a ZIP file with all of the sites files in it.

Does that mean I just deposit the file and run WordPress app to extract it ?
Also means I need to ask the developer for all the theme etc ?
So I might have to give my admin right to the developer ?

IF is a ZIP file I just have to unzip and change the config file setting?

    Is my understanding correct?

For wordpress app. I just have to install the software in my server that’s all ?

Thank you very much for advice

If you mean ‘WordPress app’ as in the WordPress installation that will run your site, then yes, it needs to be installed on a web server somewhere. There’s a lot of good hosting options out there, so go and look for yourself (do not as here as that will get this thread shut down immediatly).

If you’ve got an export file you need to install WordPress in your web server and use th import tools to import that file.

If it’s a ZIP file of all of the WordPress files, you can upload those to your server, set up the database, and update the settings in wp-config.php and it should work.

You realyl should talk to the people that developed the site and ask them what needs to be done. They’ll know what they’ve sent to you and what needs to be donwwith it.
