Is this the feed from your own site?

Yes from my own site and they way I understand is that I put this address in the widget and should point to it. If you go to the main site and hover over rss icon it shows the correct address.

No – you should never use the RSS widget to display your site’s feed on it’s front end pages. As you have seen, this creates a loopback effect with severe performance issues. Why are you trying to do this anyway?

Err ok esmi, all I want to do is have a little orange button that people can click on, like the one at the top right of this page so that users can subscribe to the rss feed of my site.

Do you know how I can do that?? It seems like a simple thing that should just be a tick box on the dashboard.

thanks I am new to this and just feeling my way

Then the RSS widget in appearance -> widgets isn’t the right tool, anyway. It’s for displaying snippets of posts from the feeds of other sites.

Have a look at http://wordpress.org/plugins/rss-icon-widget/ instead.

Your a star thank you. I do think it is od that you can set up other sites rss feeds as standard but can not simply tick a box to offer your own but whatever.

    thanks again legend.

No problem. Glad I could help 🙂

FWIW, some themes add this RSS icon/link to your site automatically. Conversely, other WordPress users are creating static sites and don’t want an RSS feed. So it’s the kind of feature that is currently best left to a plugin or theme as opposed to being in WordPress core.
