• Sorry if these questions are too noobish…

I recently read that you should submit your feed to the various RSS services…and I know that WordPress can ping the services each time you publish new content.

What’s not clear to me is whether or not an initial submission to each service is beneficial and/or needed even though WordPress is already pinging them.

Also, if I were to install & activate the (feedburner) feedsmith plugin, would that prevent all other RSS services from being able to obtain updated feeds?

    Thanks in advance!

Typically, submitting a feed tells the service that you have a new feed, and pinging the service tells it that your feed was updated.

So, one submission should be enough, however most services these days accept your blog’s first ping as a submission anyway, so even that may not be necessary.
