I have been searching all over the internet (from YouTube, to Google, to WordPress) - and there are a few things I want to clear up with RSS.
First, my goal. After a ton of research I've learned how to format/code RSS - I've also downloaded RSS Builder which doesn't seem to be a huge issue. While editing what I intended to be my first feed - I realized that the feed would seem muddied and wanted to specify a feed for each category.
I know, I know - it's all over the forums - yet I couldn't find out what to do specifically. I see that WordPress automatically sets up feed URL's. I don't want all of my posts running to that feed - or else it will seem muddied. I want a general news, a feed for my periodic articles, and maybe a feed for sound files. I thought that I would save three separate feeds - or xml files.
This is where my confusion really begins. Do I submit these xml files to WordPress first - or to a third-party client that would "host" these feeds on WordPress? I wanted to create permalinks on my page (myblogurl/feed/albumreviews ; myblogurl/feed/updates ; etc.) - I'm also confused if I do this through a category - or if I do this through a page. I created pages - but could not hide them from my main menu (I want the pages accessible - but not necessarily viewable on the menu - possibly a sidebar.) I then saw the widget that would allow me to link to an RSS feed on another site - or within WordPress. The WordPress RSS Links plugin didn't seem to be what I was looking for - it's just a feed for my WordPress posts. I want an RSS Feed to be circulated across the internet through syndication sites - and I want the same feed to be viewable on my WordPress page.
Where do I upload the xml file? How do I go about creating a custom feed URL on my WordPress blog that will only be viewable through the sidebar? Is there some sort of major aspect of RSS that I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated - I'm going nuts here - delaying an album release until I can figure out how to professionally syndicate such news via RSS (I don't want all of these unintentional RSS updates to dictate my online presence - I want to edit and moderate these things as well as major corporation). I thank all of you who took the time to read this semi-rant...another cigarette and a refill of coffee may be in order while I continuously click refresh on this thread. Cheers and aloha.
And I am unaware of how this WordPress "version" stuff works. I downloaded WordPress and I downloaded a plugin to create a custom template (which really seemed the right direction towards setting up a good feed) - however my incompetence installing/using WordPress technology made that information next to useless.
