[resolved] RSS feed Widget... Not Showing Correct Content? (10 posts)

I've searched and found some similar topics, but all of the topics I've found were in regards to custom/third party RSS widgets and so I decided to post my own support thread to address my issue.

So what's going on is this:

    - I use WP's default RSS widgets (I happen to like them, thank you!) to display the last 3 most recent posts from my different categories in my sidebar.

    - Each category has its own RSS widget (there are five of them) and no two feeds are alike.

    - The RSS widgets pull the content just fine for 3 of the categories.

    - BUT for two of the RSS widgets, the content pulled is either out of date (the post got edited) or WRONG.

The RSS for my Blog Updates is supposed to pull content from only my Blog Update category (I tested the feed address and it works!), but for some kooky reason, it is pulling a feed of ALL of my posts.

I have removed the widget and re-added it - re-entering the feed url and information and etc - but the problem persists and I have no idea why and it's driving me a bit bonkers.

Can someone either tell me why this is happening or maybe tell me what's going on and how to prevent this/stop this?

Is there a better way to do what I am doing that doesn't involve RSS feeds?

I chose RSS feeds as it seemed like a logical way to show updates on specific content and it would let my visitors RSS feed the different categories themselves without having to peruse my posts.

    Please help!

... Also, my site is/should be (I just rechecked) W3C valid for XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS 2.1 (except for some Mozilla webkit stuff).

I've gone and rechecked the validity of my RSS feeds and they're all valid and they all pull up the correct content in every other feeder, but my Blog Updates still insists on pulling content from ALL of my posts and not just my specified category.

This is a really frustrating problem; if someone can help me out with this, I'd really appreciate it as I need to figure out if I should switch to a different method of feeding in and displaying my own content in the sidebar.

Still not solved. Any ideas or suggestions or a simple 'This is a problem we haven't been able to solve/figure out' will suffice.

I just need to know if using RSS Widgets to feed in content from my own site is a viable option and logical thing to do.

    Please? Anyone?

    What is your URL?

    Whooops. Sorry for not mentioning.

It's the URL attached to my username. :)

    And thank you in advance!

I included multiple links (oops), so my reply got caught in a spam filter for a while. What I was writing is that the blog-update feed URL for your RSS widget is missing the word feed at the end of it.

    Wow.

I have never been so embarrassed about a mistake I have made in a long time. LOL

THANK YOU so much for catching that mistake.

I could have sworn that I had checked and double checked my feed URLs and even rewrote them, but I guess... not! My eyes really must have been too used to seeing my stuff to not catch such an error.

And fixing it... fixes the problem! :)

What I'm now amazed about is that the feed still worked despite not having the word 'feed' at the end of the URL.
