Support » Fixing WordPress » RSS Feed Not working with WP 2.5

  • Hi there,

We’ve got some sudden issues with the RSS feed and FeedBurner.com.

Our feed is located at http://www.globalfusion.us/blog/feed/. When I
    use the validator it says:
    “Server returned timed out”
Server is working just fine, so there is no reason for time outs. I
checked with the hosting company and all is well.

I am able to read the feed in all readers including FireFox, Google
Reader, Yahoo, etc. However, FeedBurner is not reading it and also
gives me a time out when trying to change it. Had no choice but to
    delete the FeedBurner feed.

When trying to burn a new feed, FeedBurner gives me again this
    message:
    Read timed out
“We could not find a valid feed at that address. Here are some
possible reasons this might have happened…”

I uploaded a clean backup copy of the blog when it was working well,
    but nothing changed.

Your help will be appreciated. Thank you.

The usual cause of a timeout is simply that your site is too slow.

However, I just checked that feed on the validator, and it told me that it was valid:
    http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.globalfusion.us%2Fblog%2Ffeed%2F

I’m having feed issues as well. Just switched over from Moveable type and can no longer subscribe to my feed. I posted a query yesterday but nobody seems to be responding

    @ Otto42,

Thanks for your response. Sorry I did not get back to you earlier, but I did not receive the notification email.

Anyways, the problem seemed to be that our posts were way too big, making the whole feed slow, and therefore giving time outs. The solution was to change the feed from full text to summary. We’ve been using the “more” tag, so it was just a matter of switching over.

    Again, thanks for your time.

Reading this makes me wonder if the size of the MySQL database could be an issue with read timeouts, etc. Ours is 92mb and the web host only supports up to 100mb, so I’ve been meaning to shave it down however I can (anyone know how to do this?).

But @globalfusion’s point about large posts tipped me off that dead weight may be messing with the health of the RSS feed. Sounds plausible… maybe?
