I started my wordpress blog just two days ago and made a few entries. After showing a friend the blog, he tried to pull the feed through his aggregator, but could not. I’ve tried to just let wordpress do it’s thing with creating the feed, but I’m wondering if there is something else I should do. If someone would like to take a look at the feed, it is right here: feed:http://www.mattdenner.com/wordpress/wp-rss2.php .
Thanks in advance!
the answer is in the URL.
Just remove “feed:” from the code in your footer file. Not all aggregators support that bit of code yet.
BTW: here is a list of ping services that you can add under the options>>writing tabs in your admin screen
thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn’t seem to be that easy. even when i remove the “feed:” the rss feed doesn’t seem to work. i can see a page when i load up the wp-rss2.php in my browser, but aggregators don’t seem to like it. any other suggestions?
I had exactly the same prob as you too. I just had a look at your site and the feed: is still there.
How did you remove it?
You should take it out of this file (my site is based on the template as yours) so this should be the same for you when you ftp into the server.
PS: I am assuming that you are using an FTP program to update your files .
Well, I didn’t actually remove the “feed:” text from the file yet. I just cut and pasted the url to my aggregator as a new feed and deleted “feed:” there. It still didn’t seem to work as a feed.
We’re also getting reports that our feeds don’t seem to work. I wonder why. I tried to use Feedburner to avoid posting the rss and atom feeds — http://www.pcij.org/blog/wp-rss2.php,
http://www.pcij.org/blog/wp-atom.php — but even Feedburner is not able to validate them.
The folks at Feedburner say they get a 404 error, feed not found. But sometimes they can access our feeds directly in the browser. They advised me to sort this out via WordPress, and sent me a WordPress bug report on this. Having no php background, I can’t seem to follow…
P.S. Barbarac is going overboard on all of the ping services.
Pinging an excess amount of services will only slow down your post time. Let Ping-o-matic do the hard work for you.
Thanks macmanx. I did just that but the error persists. Still getting “feed failed to load” with my Firefox live bookmark.
When I also click on the links, I get only text files of the feeds, not the usual layout with a blue bar on top. Why is that?
Hm, you’re having some further generation issued. You may want to delete and replace the feed files as well. If you’d like, you can replace them with ones from the standard WP download, just don’t forget to delete first.
Pinging too much?
I used to use pingomatic for everything (including my blog) but then read on these forums that a more complete list was available.
Thanks for the advice… 8)
I already replaced the feed files but the feeds are still not working. With Firefox live bookmark, feeds still fail to load although Bloglines is now able to display it. And I still get the feeds in plain text files when I click on the meta links for the feeds.
I’m experiencing a similar problem with my RSS feeds. Bloglines isn’t seeing anything but the first post and 5 of the first 6 comments. I can’t think of why this aggregator would not pull in more than 1 post. There are no differences in the methods I used to post the last few entries.
I’ve replaced wp-blog-header.php with the one above as well.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.
I am also having this problem: http://www.theangryblackwoman.com
I can’t get my feeds to aggregate at all anywhere.
I downloaded the wp-blog-header.php file and that didn’t work, did the delete/replace thing and that didn’t work. Any other ideas?
