    what could be causing this? When I go to the RSS link for my site:

    feed:http://www.dragaknee.com/wp-rss2.php

    it downloads just fine. However, when I feed it into the validator, it generates a 404 not found error. How can I fix this?

    I have the same problem, using latest stable release at:

    http://www.sandblogs.com/wp-rss2.php

    The feed validator gives a 404 error, and my FeedReader is not able to download any either, but the link work if I put it directly into my FireFox browser

    Your actual Feed URL is http://www.dragaknee.com/wp-rss2.php and this is what browsers and FeedValidator will recognize. feed:http://www.dragaknee.com/wp-rss2.php is a new protocol and only recognized by some of the more recent RSS new readers. The link will automatically launch your default RSS reader, but it is not recognized by browsers or FeedValidator. The first thing I did after upgrading to WP v1.5 was to strip all RSS links of "feed:".

    It does not work without the "feed:" either

    Hm, it's a long shot, but try activating permalinks.

    I too am having the same problem

    http://www.soulflakes.net/wp-rss2.php

    I can load the rss in a browser but not in a newsreader or in feed validator.

    Activating permalinks didn't work for me.

    I am using V 1.5, I used to blog manually but I converted the site yesterday to WordPress, partly because there are some other blogs that want to grab my RSS feed. I need to get it working...perhaps someone on here has had this problem and figured out a workaround?

  12. Delete the contents of your .htaccess file, don't delete it. Then, go straight into your admin control panel (under Options > Permalink) and update the permalink structure.

    You both should be able to link to:

    http://www.dragaknee.com/feed/
    http://www.soulflakes.net/feed/

    ok, i got it to find the file with the above tips. Now when I try to validate it I am getting the message:

    line 1, column 30: XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:30: XML declaration not well-formed [help]
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="'.get_settings('blog_charset').'"?>

    Here is the header of my RSS2.php file:

    <?php

    if (empty($feed)) {
    $blog = 1;
    $feed = 'rss2';
    $doing_rss = 1;
    require('wp-blog-header.php');
    }

    header('Content-type: text/xml; charset=' . get_settings('blog_charset'), true);
    $more = 1;

    ?>
    <?php echo "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"'.get_settings('blog_charset').'\"?".">"; ?>

    Have any ideas as to what could be wrong?

    BTW, here is a link to my RSS feed: http://www.dragaknee.com/feed/

  15. I'm not exactly sure. When you upgraded, did you overwrite files or delete and upload the newer versions?

    i didn't upgrade. this is a fresh install of 1.5, i decided I needed some software that helped with the blogging.

  17. Okay. I personally don't know then...sorry. =(

    Desk003, as does mine. I think this is an issue isolated to certain setups (PHP versions?). Please report the bug with FULL details of your setup. http://mosquito.wordpress.org/

    It isn't isolated, because i have the same problem with two installs that I did. I'll issue a bug report, but I just wanted to note that I don't think it's only those two with the problem.

    I'll chime in with the same issue. I can get the feed in the browser by going direct to the URL, but the validator and Feeddemon show a 404.

    Update - using permalinks fixes things for me as well, except the URI is http://www.blogname.com/feed/ which doesn't help all the people who were using /wp-rss2.php and are getting a 404 error. Going back to no permalinks doesn't fix it either.

    OK, I'm at my wits end on this one as well. I'm running IIS so the .htaccess, as far as I know, doesn't apply to me. I've made sure that the appropriate users have file level access to my blog files. I've tried updating my permalinks to several different designs, but with no luck. Anyone got any suggestions for us poor IIS people? Thanks.

    Oh, one last thing. If I change the Permalink structure, I no longer get a 404 error, I get a No Input File Specified message.

    Well, I'm an Apache served site, although it's PHP through CGI at 1&1 as far as I know.

    I'm seeing the same thing on my upgrade. Saw some other errors (see http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=23713 ) but besides that the site itself and the admin seem to be functioning properly.

    I created a copy of the site and upgraded that, but all the RSS functions trigger the 404.

    I have my two blogs with the problem on the same hosted domain. Originally both of them didn't work, now one of them works. I'm totally lost.

    I get a 404 in the browser, but when I hit refresh a number of times it eventually works (anywhere from 1 to more than a dozen refreshes required). The next refresh after that times out ...
