Support » Plugin: WP Job Manager » RSS button leads to error page

For some reason I cannot seem to get the RSS feed to work properly on the job board. Initially when users pushed the RSS button, it would show an error saying that there was no RSS feed installed on the site… now that I have an RSS plugin installed, it gives odd error messages like “error on line 118 at column 115: xmlParseEntityRef: no name” or just a bunch of random html code on a page.

My first question is if there is an easy way to completely removed the RSS feature?

If not, how can I get it to work?

No plugins are required for RSS to work; RSS is a core WP feature. No doubt it was your browser telling you you needed an RSS plugin to *view* the feed.

If you’ve installed any odd RSS plugins for WordPress since experiencing this, remove them, and give us a URL to your site. I’ll check the feed is working.

Ok, I uninstalled the RSS plugin, but I’m still getting the same error in Chrome and Safari. It takes me to a messy page with scrambled html coding. I am using a content restriction plugin that is restricting certain jobs to a specific membership level… could that be the culprit?

Whats the URL to the jobs page; I’m not certain without looking.

It’s on https://prodigitalnetwork.com/network, however you would have to be logged in to see that page. Anyway you can make a dummy account and check it out? It should take just a minute…

Delete my account when we’re done then 🙂

Looks like a plugin is mangling the output of the feed. Your main feed is unaffected, so it could be some form of access restriction you have in place, or the caching plugin (I see output from that in the feed itself).

You’ll need to deactivate plugins to find whats causing it. I recommend turning the w3 caching off first, and before viewing the feed (after turning off plugins) do a hard refresh to clear any browser caching (hold shift and click refresh). WP does cache these feeds quite aggressively making it a little harder to debug.

No worries, I’ll be sure to delete it. I appreciate you taking the time to check that out. So, I deactivated plugins, including W3 Total Cache, and the user restriction plugin, but the same deal keeps happening.

What are my realistic options? The job board is vital to the functionality of the site. Thanks again for the help so far.

It appears to be working on Safari now, but Chrome is still showing errors.

    I’m on chrome; cache?

Yeah, I cleared the cache. Basically, I have two job types on the board; when one job type is selected, everything seems to be working fine, but when the other is selected, it still gives an error at the top of the page. If it’s working for you then great! If you don’t mind taking one last look and if you don’t see anything, I guess I’ll live with it. Afterwards, I’ll be sure to take care of your account as well.
