    Hi everyone.

    My site is: Alyssa Writes

I’ve been trying to upload images into the Media Library from a post and I get this error message: Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2015/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

So I created a folder in uploads: uploads/2015/01 and uploaded the image into my GoDaddy File Manager. It is in the file manager but not showing up in my Media Library.

I’ve also tried changing the permissions of the wp-content folder and I got an error: Response: 500 ‘SITE CHMOD 777 wp-content’: command not understood

I then called GoDaddy and they said to call WP. I’ve also tried reverting to 2015 theme and deactivating all my plugins.

I also checked my WP SuperCache plugin, which has this error message:

Error: Your cache directory (D:\Hosting\11163995\html/wp-content/cache/) or D:\Hosting\11163995\html/wp-content need to be writable for this plugin to work. Double-check it.
Cannot continue… fix previous problems and retry.

I’m at a loss here – can anyone help?

  • I had the exact same issue and error message. I also went to GoDaddy and performed the required WP update and now I cannot even log in to my WP site or dashboard. I’ve read through a lot of threads and do not want to waste any more time on what was supposed to be a simple routine update. And all because I was just trying to upload a new photo. Please help.

@jamesaly – perhaps this will help you:

If not, I’d suggest going back to GoDaddy and insist they help you sort this.

@althauser – please start your own thread if you need help – posting in someone else’s thread doesn’t work well on these forums.

@wpyogi: I tried changing the file permissions and I get this back from Filezilla: Response: 500 ‘SITE CHMOD 777 wp-content’: command not understood

Apparently CHMOD doesn’t work with Windows?

I am going to call GoDaddy now but the person I spoke to seem to be clueless.

I really don’t know, but this may be helpful:

CHMOD doesn’t work with Windows so it can’t be done through Filezilla. If you’re with GoDaddy you can change the file permissions by checking the uploads folder and clicking the ‘Privacy’ button in the File Manager.

Uncheck ‘Inherit’ and check ‘Web Writable’

    Hope that helps others!

jamesaly, thanks for the information provided. This resolved my issues.

    wonder what happened?

@haziqbinarif check jamesaly above response out.

    hi all.
on one of my sites im getting this same problem.
however my hosting is on godaddy wordpress hosting so there is no file manager section.
i have changed my permissions in filezilla to 777 but no success.

any tips for wordpress hosting with godaddy?

there support isnt the best as you all know.

So I spent a lot of time today with GoDaddy, with a great tech that looked into this issue. For me, it started when I transferred the site into my Go Daddy cPanel. If this helps at all, he found the answer in
the upload directory path, in the database file.

He suggested that if this happens with any other sites, to try setting your WordPress permalinks to default, and then re-setting them to your preferences, and that might solve the issue.

I hope this helps someone – so frustrating to not find an answer! For the record, (and I am NOT affiliated), I love GoDaddy and their support. If you’ve had a bad experience, it could just be the tech you got that time.

Well, I too experience a similar problem at more.thinkncsc.com

I am a student WP developer, and I just develop themes. No backend. Can someone assist me to solve the problem?

I had the same problem…spent an hour or so trying to figure it out…this worked for me: unpwnd.com/?p=555

yup this is frustrating me to death.

    Thanks for the link willspc23.
