# root to subdirectory redirect problem

 * I’ve setup my WP installation in a subfolder called WP and I’ve followed the 
   directions recommended in [http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory](http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory)
   and copied index.php and htaccess and made the changes asked for.
 * However, I can’t make changes to the Home and site URL’s as suggested as they
   don’t exist in Settings/General. What else can I do as as it currently stands,
   the redirect doesn’t work and I get “error establishing a database connection”.
   The sit works fine if I go to the subdirectory.
 * Help?

 * Exactly that, those two lines aren’t there. I can see from the graphics on wordpress.
   org where they are supposed to be but in my installation, they simply aren’t 
   there. The page is:-
 * Site Name
    Tagline Email address Time zone

 * Done automatically my cpanel and softalicious(?). I just followed WordPress’s
   recommendations for what to do next.

 * Well, something is very wrong with that install. Have you asked your hosts about
   this? It would seem that you’ve installed a hacked (changed) version of WordPress.

 * Please let us know what response you get from your hosts about this. I’m at a
   bit of a loss as to why they might cripple WP in this way.

 * Host said there should be no difference and, in their defence, when I wiped the
   software and reinstalled, everything was fine so still none the wiser as to what
   caused the problem but as it’s working now, I don’t really care.
 * The only moral of the story for me is to check an install before ploughing on
   ahead with loading plugins/posts/theme design.
