Support » Plugin: Breadcrumb NavXT » Root Page setting for custom post types

  • Hello!

I’d like to set the root page for a custom post type – but I want the root page to be a page in that custom post type. It looks like right now, I can only select a root page from the built-in Page post type. Am I missing something?

If you’ve got a Github repo, I’d be happy to contribute a pull request for this feature. 2 potential solutions could be:

    1. Apply a filter to the arguments of wp_dropdown_pages() in the admin settings page, so that other devs like myself can add a post_type parameter to the arguments.
    2. Add an additional drop-down so that without any code, an admin can choose which post type the root page should be drawn from.

    Cheers,

    Jacob

The intent of the root page setting is to offer the same functionality the “posts page” setting does for the post post type. Thus, it is intended to be a page (instance of the page post type). In general, the page post type is treated in a special manner in Breadcrumb NavXT. This may change in the future, but I have not seen compelling reason to change it yet.

Do you have a particular use case that requires an instance of a CPT to be the root of the CPT and the parent post hierarchy can’t be used? Semantically speaking, for an instance of CPT to be the root for that CPT, the CPT should be a hierarchical CPT. In this case, the “post parent” facilities within WordPress is the preferred method to establish your hierarchy.
