• I have installed the plugin and unfortunately I clicked the button to fix users automatically. This meant that the names became randomized which is a bad thing for my personal blog. I want to roll back the installation, so I can enter my own username and display name. How do I do that? I have even tried to deactivate and remove the plugin but my author links now point to strange author names 404 pages. Help!

The randomized names are normal : that’s the point of the “fix user automatically” button. It will prevent WordPress from showing real usernames, until each user change it. There unfortunately no way to roll back the installation, but you may ask your hosting company to revert the database.

But 404 errors are strange. The plugin don’t change author URL… Are you sure the 404 pages comes from our plugin ?

Yes, because they link to the weird rnd names creaed by your plugin.

I have had to remove the author links from all post and pages to solve this problem.

    Hello.

Im’ really sorry that our plugin caused you so much trouble.

The plugin don’t generate 404 pages. It does not change authors URL for users created before the plugin is activated. For users created after the plugin activation, it will replace their default URL (that used to be their login) with a more secured one generated from the plugin. That’s why we added a notice to let you add another complementary plugin to change manually each author URL, without using our auto-generated name or the login name of the user.

EDIT : but I juste made a test, and it seems that I experienced the same issue in a dev blog. I’m checking this as soon as possible and i’ll get back to you.

Meanwhile, check with your hosting provider to see if he has a backup of your database to restor old URL.

We have change our plugin to remove this nicename functionnalty that cause your bug. We are really sorry about it.

Here is anothor solution. Install the “SF Author Url Control” plugin. It will add an option to manually change the author slug. There, you will be able to remove the auto-generated name and replace it with the old one (their login).
