• Hello,
I have this issue: I need to have “Group managers”, but some of them have one extra right, and I called them “Group manager coordinators”.
So I created the Coordinators group, and inherited from “Group managers”, plus adding the new capability.
However, the actual Role seems to take precedence: a user having the basic role of “Group manager”, but assigned to the group “Coordinators”, I expected would get the extra capability. But it doesn’t.
Also, some plugins which read the Roles seem to not get the capabilities that are set into Groups.
Am I missing something essential with regards to how Groups works??? If a user has Role=X, and some Group=Y which adds capabilities, will the Role be totally ignored by wp/plugins?

  • Hi catasoft,

Have you used Groups hierarchy for your groups? You can check the documentation here to see how it works.
In general, when we talk about Roles we usually mean WordPress User Roles and yes when you use groups, you can override these Roles. For example if a user has the subscriber Role, with Groups plugin you can assign the user with the capability to edit users for example. This of course is restricted by the default WordPress Roles.

    Cheers
