• Hi,

I’m trying to set up a WordPress website where registered members can login and edit their own posts.

I’ve set up a few members assigned to the ‘Author’ role so they can edit their own posts, but not others. That works perfectly, but the site will have post categories for each user (so they can add posts into their own designated page), and this means a user could accidentally (or purposefully) assign a post to another users category.

Is there any way to lock categories to a specific user? Or maybe even hide the category list from Authors so they can’t choose the option then they’re logged into the admin panel?

I’m trying to avoid using plugins such as Role Scoper as they’re a bit overkill for my needs, if anyone can think of a simpler solution I’d be grateful to hear it.

    Thanks 🙂

    Thanks for the reply Shane.

It’s a good plug-in but a bit too much for what I’m trying to achieve as all the extra options could confuse my client. What I’d like to do is to be able to ‘switch off’ or hide the category section for logged in users with something a bit less intrusive.

Expression Engine has facilities for assigning categories to members and stopping them from posting in other categories, it’d be great if WordPress had something similar.

I’ve had a good look around but can’t see anything that does this so I’m probably going to have to use Role Scoper.
