Well, your site ranks as Mobile Friendly according to Google’s Mobile-Friendly test, so I wouldn’t worry. And I see the correct representation of your site in the little mobile phone, not just a yellow background. If something needed to be changed, the test would have displayed a red banner and a list of the things that needed to be changed. If you are concerned about your robots.txt file, you can go to Google Webmaster Tools, select your site, then Crawl → robots.txt Tester to test it.
Hi,
Thanks. I said it was friendly, but the display wasn’t accurate. I removed the stuff after “disallow” so maybe it’s working better now.
The problem with most Google material that’s meant to be helpful, is that it’s not actually easy to follow. It isn’t written as clearly as you write. For instance, it said, or seemed to say, that if the display was wrong, even after it said the page was mobile friendly, then you should do this and that. To be really clear, it should say whether or not it can display improperly and still be called mobile friendly.
I did the crawl thing, and it said there was a redirect…. Which I didn’t understand at all.
Several hours after spending a lot of time trying to figure it out, I began to wonder if the robots.txt thing related to links on the page. Because according to iPage I don’t even have a robots.txt file for health-boundaries. I do however have one in my other sites.
Sigh.
On the other hand, it’s going on two years that I’ve been working on making each of my pages mobile friendly… so this is sort of like getting approval. The whole point of moving to iPage and WP was to be mobile friendly. 🙂
And, How very much I owe you for helping me get to this point. 🙂
This page uses 4 resources which are blocked by robots.txt.
This will show up if you have the setting dashboard->settings->Reading->Search Engine Visibility unchecked. (ran into this myself just the other day)
Thanks, Juggledad. I removed the robots.txt files, per some article I found via Google.
I remember you from an early Montezuma forum I found. I’ve been wondering how to find you to ask if you know how to
“Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content”
I’ve read the directions on how to fix and spent a month of 8-hour work days trying to fix it… with no success.
This is the url for the test that shows that advice
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
“Search Engine Visibility Search Engine Visibility Discourage search engines from indexing this site
It is up to search engines to honor this request.”
I looked into mine and it’s not checked because it looks as if checking it is meant to discourage search engines….
Oops, I should have said ‘it it IS checked’
I just ran the google test on tyour url and it comes back fine.
That’s peculiar, PageSpeed insights does not come back fine for me. It gives me a 71 for Mobile and continues to say I should “Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content”
