ridiculous short timeout on posting comments in wp forums

If I try to post in this forum and take too long to write and post comment i get something like ‘cannot verify you sent info’ and comment disappears. If I didn’t remember to copy my comment (so i can then paste and repost when it’s lost) before posting it’s lost to the ether, courtesy of forum or mozilla i know not which.

I’d like to write short, correct posts (by my standards anyway) quoting code etc. and as everyone knows it takes longer to write a short concise post than it does to knock out a long rambling comment like this one. but i hit some kind of unflagged ‘security’ time out if i take time and lose those finely crafted questions.

this is a HUGE usability pain . What about people who don’t have english as a first language? or just anyone who takes time to write a comment? What security issue is solved by having such a short timeout?

These forums can be exceptionally useful and encouraging but this behaviour seems to be security paranoia beats usability to beat the user.

That’s not really a forum issue as much as a web server issue. Which I’m not seeing myself… Hard for me to reproduce. 😉

How long are you taking to post? I’ve written 400 word essays in reply to forums topics and I’ve never had that problem. I’ve literally come back hours later and finished the reply. As long as I did not log out then it just works for me.

Try using a browser extension. Lazarus Forms has gotten good feedback for saving that edit.

thanks for reply. Yes my timeouts have been very short , less than 5 mins sometimes. what you say makes sense , it’s too short to be a forum code issue.

but, he says sheepishly , if i get Secure Connection Failed on https://wordpress.org/support/bb-post.php and hit Try again it works to post comment.

So i’m intepreting this as a mozilla problem (and me not bothering to try again cos it never usually helps)
