You can disable the rte in Options/Writing. Uncheck the box. Or if you want to leave it on for others, go to Options/User, and at the bottom of your profile page uncheck THAT box to disable it for you only.

Thanks for the help vkaryl.
Well, im picky lol, I want the best of both, I want to use the rich editor, it’s great for pics, formating etc, but the fact that when I paste, bugs me so much. I used WP-MU and the editor there didn’t copy the text styles etc when pasting, is there any way to just disable that part?
Many Thanks
I don’t know because I hand-code all my stuff. I think you can do some tweaking using (maybe?) a plugin, but there again, I haven’t paid much attention since it has no relevance for me.
Try this: using google –
site:http://wordpress.org/support rich text editor, plugin
See if you can turn up some logical threads. Just look at the ones above 50000 in id number.
Not only does the Rich Editor preserve formatting, it inserts FONT tags into my tag soup.
In fact, in one recent post on a test blog, it added font=”class” to the paragraph I typed following the text I pasted into the blockquote.
It doesn’t do that every time, but FONT tags… egh.

Which makes this all but unusable for a client requesting a group blog for non-handcoders. Anyone? This has got to be a TinyMCE bug, no?
I would bet money that it is a TinyMCE bug, I hate the thing. 🙂

Humz, so is it a bug? or what? lol, I just remember when I used wordpres MU, that had a rich editor, which worked in much the same way, but didn’t copy font tags etc.
Would be nice if either it didn’t copy them, was a way to disable copying of them, or a way to paste plain text (like in some html programs).
Thanks for the replies guys.
MailBuild provides this functionality via FCKeditor. Its quite nice.
It looks like there are ways to add it to TinyMCE, http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=3164
Not sure if this would work with WP’s plugin architecture though…
I whipped up a plugin to add the TinyMCE’s paste plugin to WP.

…those WP handles sure are nice 🙂
