• With all the confusion of where the WordPress 2.0 Theme Competition is headed, I’ve decided to create a new site dedicated to reviving the competition.

I believe the competition was very disorganized and the details of rules, judges and judging criteria were very vague. Deadlines were not met, and communication of events and e-mails that happened after the site disappeared seem vague and disconnected.

I’ve created a temporary site to house the new competition: http://wordpress.kineda.com

I’ll move the site to a dedicated domain shortly. Let’s not lose all the hard work of the creative WordPress community!

To start things off, I’ll be donating an Ipod shuffle to the competition to get things back in gear.

Any questions about the new competition can be left here, at the new site, or e-mailed directly to terry@kineda.com.

I hope this step gets things back on track! 🙂

    New WordPress Theme Prizes!!!

Stuart Tan has kindly donated two prizes! The first prize is an Apple 30GB Ipod with Video Playback from Amazon.com. The second prize is a Sandisk 2GB SD Ultra II Secure Memory Card.

Our third new prize comes from Phoenixrealm. David Peralty of Phoenix realm has donated a $50.00 iTunes Gift Certificate for the design that has the “The Best Use of Colors.?

Thanks again to both our new sponsors. Looks like we’ll be able to add new categories afterall!

I offered some hosting from asmallorange as a prize, but I guess hosting is needed anymore. Makes sense I guess — just wanted to make sure you actually got my email. 😀

I certainly hope that the prizes will spur on a little competition. Any updates on the number of entries so far? I’ve only heard there were 20+. I’ve already sent out some notices on my internet related blog to see if anyone else is keen on the competition. Still, I think there might be a need for bigger and more interesting prizes. Any feedback on prizes on a wishlist? I might be able to solicit some, or provide them. Hard work should be rewarded! 😉

I’m sure that as the deadline approaches the entries will ramp up… so I surely wouldn’t fret.

    Three new theme categories added:

    Best Two Column Design
    Best Liquid Design
    Best gracefully degrading AJAX integration

    1 week to go! 🙂

Is it today (1st May) that we get to see then entries?

    Anyone know?

Apologies if this has already been answered.

    today is the day …

from http://www.arenawp.com: All themes must be submitted by May 1, 2006, 12:00pm PST. This will allow enough time for everyone to re-submit their themes. It will also allow time to find a qualified panel of judges for the competition.

yeah… when will the public be able to see all the themes?

i guess we will have to wait for the judges verdict ..

    # Winners will be announced on May 15th, 2006.

    *puts stoopid head on*

So does that mean we won’t see any of them or be able to download them to try out until the 15th of May?

I was under the impression we’d be able to see/download/try out on the 1st.

This is all getting very confusing.

*removes stoopid head and puts normal head back on*

Piggy, no you’re not the only one.
I was under that impression too.
I think they should have explained that a little more clearly if that is the case.

The Public was so excited that May 1st was “D-day” and nothing yet.

That should have been made more clear. Definitely.
    So dissapointing. 🙁

Well, I see that the competition blog has been updated to say the compo is closed.

It would have been nice (not to mention reassuring) if some of the comments and questions left had been answered (including my own). Oh well.

It’s also been confirmed that theres yet another two week wait before we can try out any of the themes – apparently they’ll be available after the judging has been completed.

To be honest, I’d have thought we could try them out when the compo closed for new entries (especially as we all had the date of May 1st thrown at us so often), especially given the fact that we’ve all waited so long already.

Allowing us to play around with the themes would have no impact on the judging and would also allow us to make up our own minds too.

Anyway, yet another delay has just about caused me to lose any interest that I had remaining. It’s really surprised me that hardly anyone else (apart from LaBella) have voiced this opinion too.

nopt because noone else wrote here a comment to does mean that we dont think the same way. i also hoped that we can see screenshots or test those themes withe a new theme viewer, but thats completly wrong, and its okay so.

they made their own rules and had a lot things to do and its hard to write this now for me, but take it or leave it :/

cértainly it wouldnt do anything if the community could test and see those themes in action, the judging will work in the background until a winner is announced. but i feel like you now that im, gonna lose some interest – but after all, im honestly, i will also take a look again on the page at the 15.5.2006 and see whats getting new, whats getting hot and who won all those featured prices.

( perhaps there are so many wonderful amazing themes sent at the last day, that made it the jury impossible to announce a winner in each categorie….that sounds great, doesn´t it? )

i can understand both sides, even then when the makers let us wait with a statement such a long time and don´t answer anyones question immediatly. so let us wait together and see how they judge those themes for each categorie, the party begins round 15.5, gogogo

It’s impossible for the judging team to judge all the themes that were sent in last minute, or for that matter the themes sent in prior to the last day of submission. I think we had about 20 themes submitted at the last hour. I’d like the judges to have a first look before the community so that there are no biases from comments made from the general public regarding who should win. It’d be easy for someone to say.. OMG XYZ THEME IS SO GREAT IT SHOULD BE THE GRAND WINNER! And then everyone jumps on that bandwagon.

It was also said that judging would take two weeks, and then the themes released. It’s clearly stated on the site from the beginning. As an inbetween, I’m offering the screenshots of each theme, and then releasing them with a theme viewer to follow.
