[resolved] Revisions with No Author Changing Posts (9 posts)

Since updating to 3.5 our site has consistently seen a revision with a blank author listed that has changed the content of the page.

The previous day we schedule posts and it will have some video, amazon link, etc. in it. The next morning the YouTube iframe or Amazon link will be gone. The trail always leads back to a revision by a blank author that happens right after we move the post from Pending Review to Scheduled. But it's not obvious to the editor scheduling the post since it happens after they schedule it and exit the editor.

In the revision log it looks like this:

    21 December, 2012 @ 7:01 by Editor2
    19 December, 2012 @ 21:24 by
19 December, 2012 @ 21:23 by Editor1 <--- This is where we scheduled the post

    Or on a different post:
    21 December, 2012 @ 9:58 by Editor2
    21 December, 2012 @ 8:00 by Editor2
    21 December, 2012 @ 0:07 by
21 December, 2012 @ 0:07 by Editor1 <--- This is where we scheduled the post
    21 December, 2012 @ 0:06 [Autosave] by Editor1
    20 December, 2012 @ 22:54 by Editor1
    20 December, 2012 @ 22:53 by Author

    Any ideas?

We have exactly the same issue. Same WP version, same symptoms etc.

I'm having the exact same issue: ghost revisions with blank author. It looks like this:

Whenever this happens, it strips out HTML tags such as samp, kbd and removes attributes from pre tags.

I'm running WordPress 3.5. What plugins do you guys use?

    Here is my list:

    1. AddQuicktag Version 2.2.1 | By Frank Bültge
    2. Adsense-Deluxe Version 0.8 | By Acme Technologies
    3. Akismet Version 2.5.7 | By Automattic
    4. cbnet Different Posts Per Page Version 2.2 | By chipbennett
    5. Comment Form Quicktags Version 1.3.2 | By Regen
    6. Comment Info Detector Version 1.0.5 | By HieuDT
    7. Comment Toolbar Version 1.4.10 | By Cristiano Fino
    8. Democracy Version 2.0.1 | By Andrew Sutherland
    9. Filosofo Comments Preview Version 1.5 | By Austin Matzko
    10. Word Wrapping Version 1.0.0 | By Jim Wigginton
    11. Google Sitemaps Version 2.7.1 | By Arne Brachhold
    12. Highlight Author Comments Version 1.0.2 | By Rob Marsh, SJ
    13. Link Indication Version 4.4 | By Michael Wöhrer
    14. List Subpages Version 2.0 | By Rob Miller
    15. Related Posts Version 2.02 | By Alexander Malov & Mike Lu
    16. Subscribe To Comments Version 2.1.2 | By Mark Jaquith
    17. WP-Ban Version 1.60 | By Lester 'GaMerZ' Chan
    18. WP-SpamFree Version 2.1.1.2 | By WP-SpamFree
    19. WP-Syntax Version 0.9.13 | By Steven A. Zahm
    20. WP Super Cache Version 1.2 | By Donncha O Caoimh

Maybe we can narrow this down. As is, I have no clue what is causing this. It doesn't seem to be malicious - it looks like a cleanup function of some sort.

The plugins we have in common are Akismet (though it's inactive, we use IntenseDebate which has a separate spam filter) and WP Super Cache 1.2.

Do you use the Preload feature?

I enabled preloading few weeks ago. I just disabled it to see if it changes anything.

I do not use the WP Super Cache pre-load feature.

Wow, thanks! This seems exactly the issue that is affecting us.

Good to know this is an actual bug and not something I did, or a malicious activity of some sort.

So I guess we just have to sit tight till 3.5.1 rolls out now.
