• Resolved squeaky

    (@squeaky)

I have several custom post types all have revisions. Today I needed to revert back to an older version of a page, but found that I cannot turn revisions on, or off, in screen options.
Checking the post type setup it reports that it supports revisions.

Any idea why or what to do?
    thanks

I think revision control is typically done via details provided in your site’s wp-config.php, in case there’s something in there already.

Otherwise, the checkbox in the screen options tab just controls whether or not to display he metabox that shows all the revisions available.

I know that you should also be able to access revisions via the “Publish” metabox, at least if the link is displayed, like in this screenshot:

@diannekrause have you checked your wp-config to see if revisions have been disabled at all via that method? Or perhaps you have a plugin disabling for you? Perhaps some performance-based one that has a setting related to this?

Last question, have you made any edits that would trigger a revision?

Hi. I’m fairly new to word press. How do I check whether revisions are permitted? I don’t want to wreck the database ( though nothing works at present). There are no options for revisions in either the screen options or the publish box. Now my photos are blank. The file size is too big but I can’t edit revisions. Can’t open site often now. I’ve been trying to work this out for 2 days. I can get into CPanel OK, but how do I edit the database from there? Please help

@cjhazell the first question would be if you have revisions checked for your post type(s) in your CPTUI settings.

Also I would check for any mentions of “revision” in your wp-config.php file on the server.

It may also be possible that you have a different plugin installed regarding revision control that could be affecting things.

I tried lots of things. I looked at permissions which were set to 755 as various websites say, but when I called my host they noticed a problem with permissions and changed something and my photos came back, but also revisions suddenly appeared in my publish box.

Hmm. Not sure with that as I’ve never heard of revisions being limited by file permissions.

Regardless, it sounds like your specific issue is resolved?

This was driving me nuts, then I realized I had made no change in the text content box (mine was a new page.) I added some text, updated, and the revisions checkbox appeared in the Screen Options. I hope this helps anyone that found other solutions didn’t work.

Good info to know @joedean. Last I knew, revisions only tracked the post content area, so updating/editing JUST metadata and custom fields wouldn’t trigger one. I also believe there are trac tickets open to have metadata revision controlled as well, but nothing official yet.

I am having this same problem. Support revisions is checked. Revisions show in Pages and Posts but not in the custom post type. I made an edit and it still doesn’t show.

Try making one more edit, just in case. I just tried and didn’t see a revision metabox until I had two to choose from.

As per https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/139035/1006 Check the edit and comments

OK, that worked, thanks for the quick reply.
