My WordPress sites are getting more complicated with features and plugins working together. The automatic update for plugins is handy, but I have noticed recently that everything can be working fine then a current plugin will have an update and suddenly a part of my site will break. It is usually an issue with images on the rss feed newsletter or some other complicated issue. Rolling back the plugin will usually fix the issue. It would be nice if we could have the option of rolling back to the old configuration after an update in case something breaks.

Are your hosts making backups of your database?

Yes, I recently had a plugin update break my entire site, and had to have my entire VPS restored to fix it. I can do manual backups before I update any plugins or other files, and I will start doing that. I was just suggesting a rollback feature for plugin updates, which would be easy for the user, but probably complex for the developers. Thanks. 🙂

The previous version of each plugin is on SVN publicly already, see: http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/

So it may not be that difficult to revert, if that’s all it takes to fix the issue.

Yeah why not have a plugin revert button if a plugin breaks your installation.
