Reverse chronological order in post archives

    Hi. I’d like to display the category archive of my posts — not pages — in reverse chronological order (i.e. oldest on top, newest bottom).

    I’ve searched these threads and the web but haven’t found anything helpful for me, as they all apply to very old versions of WP. I’ve seen a few workarounds with plugins, but certainly there must be an easy way within WP to do this.

    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    the choices are with plugins or making a change to php for theme.
    do you have a child theme set up?
    can you share a link to your website?
    do you feel comfortable editing theme files?
    do you want a recommendation for a plugin to modify display of posts or do you already have one in mind?

    Hi, thanks for the reply. To answer your questions:

    1) I do not have a child theme set up
    2) http://baselinewander.com
    3) I do feel comfortable editing theme files
    4) If there’s no easy fix by editing the theme files, then sure I’ll take a plugin recommendation!

    if you are not using a child theme; I would not recommend editing theme files.

    Thanks. In previous versions of WP there used to be a php function option that you could specify a sort order. The parameter was named something like sort_order and you could set it “ASC” for ascending or “DESC” for descending. Does that no longer exist?

    Yes, there are ways to change the display order via theme files, but I don’t recommend editing theme files if you are not using a child theme.

    Customizations will be lost if you update the theme in future without using a child theme.
