    Does this plugin maintain retina (144dpi) quality? If so, does it know when to load the retina or the standard 72 dpi version of an image?

    Hi @nicnack,

    Apologies for the delay here.

    When you upload an image to your WordPress site your thumbnails will be created with 72dpi by default, this is what WP does regardless of Smush plugin.

    Your original, full size image, is untouched by the WP and it retains 144dpi and since Smush free only optimizes thumbnails your original image size will stay at 144dpi.
